OPEN CALL: Travel Support Program for EAJS 2026 in Poznań, Poland

The Japan Foundation (JF) offer the travel support program assists emerging scholars in attending EAJS 2026, to be held in Poznań, Poland, from August 27 to 30, 2026. Through this program, the Japan Foundation aims to support scholars’ academic career development and foster stronger networks among Japan scholars in Southeast Asia. The details of program as below.

 

  1. Program Description

This travel support program assists emerging scholars in attending EAJS 2026, to be held in Poznań, Poland, from August 27 to 30, 2026. Through this program, the Japan Foundation aims to support scholars’ academic career development and foster stronger networks among Japan scholars in Southeast Asia.

 

In addition, JF-related events are planned as follows:

– August 27 to 30 (During the conference period): JF Special Panel

– August 27 to 30 (During the conference period): Networking event

 

 

  1. Eligibility

Awardees shall fulfill all the following:

  • Scholars who hold nationality in Southeast Asian countries or are affiliated with a Japanese studies institution in Southeast Asia;
  • Scholars who have obtained Master’s degree and above, or Master’s course students hoping to enroll in doctoral course, who are engaged in Japan-related research and are eager to build networks with researchers from various countries/research fields;
  • Scholars who can participate in the conference for the full duration, August 27 to 30, 2026. To attend the conference, scholars shall arrive in Poznań on

August 26 and leave on August 31 (subject to flight schedules);

  • Scholars who are able to communicate in English are desirable;
  • Scholars whose presentation proposals have been accepted for the EAJS 2026 Poznań, Poland by the 2026 EAJS selections committee.

 

  1. Priority
  • Applicants who are conducting studies that bridge Southeast Asian or Asian regional studies and Japanese studies, and who contribute to the promotion of Japanese studies within ASEAN countries through cross-regional human exchange.
  • Young scholars or those who can contribute to the development of young scholars.
  • Applicants who do not have other sources of funding.

 

 

  1. Items to be Provided
  • Conference registration fee;
  • Airfare for a round-trip ticket, between the airport nearest to one’s residence and Poznań–Ławica Airport (POZ). The Japan Foundation only covers cost for airfare of discount-economy tickets;

* Items covered by the grant are limited to airfare only. Additional costs associated with airfare, such as overseas travel insurance or additional baggage fees, will not be covered.

  • Accommodation for 5 nights (Check-in: August 26, Check-out: August 31, subject to flight schedules).

*If an additional night before the conference is required due to flight schedules, this can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

*Awardees must stay in the hotel designated by the Japan Foundation.

 

  1. Application Procedure

Please submit the “Application Form” and CV (optional) by e-mail to the Japan Foundation Yangon (japanesestudies.jfyg@jpf.go.jp). The deadline is May 7, 2026.

Handling of Personal Information (EAJS 2026)

  1. Basic Terms and Conditions:
  • Awardees are required to arrive a day before the conference starts (August 26, 2026) and leave the following day after the conference ends (August 31, 2026) to/from Poznań to cover the whole duration of conference and related activities of the Japan Foundation (subject to flight schedules).
  • Awardees are required to attend meetings/events held by the Japan Foundation scheduled before/during the conference. Details will be provided later.
  • Awardees must submit a report by September 30, 2026.
  • After returning to their home countries, awardees are expected to actively share the outcomes of their research and contribute to the internationalization of Japanese studies.
  • Awardees are expected to actively participate in future Japanese studies programs organized by the Japan Foundation.
  • Awardees must obtain necessary visa for entry to Poland, and bear the cost.
  • This travel support provides financial assistance but does not cover the whole cost of travel. Items not covered in the above “4. Items to be Provided” must be borne by the awardee. Also, the Japan Foundation strongly recommends the awardees to acquire travel insurance by themselves.
  • If awardees were found not following the above (1) and (2), the Japan Foundation may ask awardees for refund of costs that the Japan Foundation had borne for them.
  • If awardees decided not to attend the conference after they submit the “acceptance form”, the Japan Foundation may ask them to refund any costs that the Japan Foundation had already borne for them. Refund decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the reason for cancellation, including illness, emergencies, or force majeure.
