Welcome to the JCM from June 6 to 27 to see the Japan Foundation (JF) traveling exhibition “Tokyo Before/After” and learn about Japanese photographers and their American stories!

The Japan Foundation, Yangon and the American Center will jointly present the traveling exhibition “Tokyo Before/After” at Jefferson Center Mandalay (JCM) from June 6 to 27, 2026.

Created on the occasion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, this exhibition features approximately 80 works that juxtapose photographs of Tokyo taken in the 1930s and 1940s with works captured after 2010. Through the perspectives and imaginations of Japanese photographers, visitors will be able to experience the many different faces of the city of Tokyo.

Also, you will have the opportunity to explore the works of famous Japanese photographers, such as Daido Moriyama, Nobuyoshi Araki, and so on. Let’s discover their stories connected to the United States.

Admission is free for all visitors. However, attendees are required to present an ID card such as an NRC, student card, or other identification upon entry.
