Introduction

The Naga people, residents of the frontier with India in northwest Myanmar. Because of harsh geographical conditions and complicated political background, their mountainous region was banned to visit for such a long time. Most of them live by their livelihood in the deep forests. Director visited their villages in 2016 (Feb-Mar), documenting the Music of Naga. In Shaplo village, he had a chance to witness the way they make a wooden drum; their traditional practice. He made this video to document the vanishing culture to for people to remember.

Director’s Profile (Iguchi Hiroshi)

As a recording engineer, Hiroshi has taken part in several music projects including musicians’ original compositions, advertising, movie soundtracks and theatre music, in Japan and abroad. On his visit to Naga region in 2016 as a Japan Foundation Asia Center fellow, Hiroshi was so interested in the Naga people and started recording their unique culture.
